How Long Should Your Book Be?

One of the biggest obstacles many new writers and authors face is knowing how long their book should be. How long is too long? How short is too short? What if my book isn’t anywhere close to the genre’s average? 

Luckily for you, the KBC team has compiled the industry standards as well as a few examples. 

As demonstrated in the table above, the general fiction and non-fiction books tend to be the longest such as high fantasy novels and business or political books. Not so surprisingly it’s the how-to and self-help genre that reduces the anxiety of needing a high word count. 

But once you have a general idea of how long you want your book to be, it may feel overwhelming to think about creating that much content. Don’t worry. You don’t have to start from scratch!

  • YouTube Channel

  • Blog 

  • Online Course

  • Webinar or presentation

  • Templates or downloadables
